S3 EP3 - Wycombe Wanderers - Continued Improvement Followed By Our Traditional Winter Blip.

Updated: Mar 6, 2021

After our best start to a Championship season we continued our good run through October.

This started with a 1-0 win away at Southampton. This was a real Wycombe performance having only 2 shots on target and 37% possession. Danny Loader with the Goal in the second half proved enough.

A quick turnaround and we were back at home 3 days later to face Championship new boys Gillingham . Another win, Johnston and Power with the goals.

The winning run carried on with a 3-1 win away at Bristol Rovers. The front three all chipped in with goals, which is a managers dream.

Sheffield Wednesday were next up and suffered the same fate as most recent visitors to Adams Park. A tidy 3-0 win with goals from Stewart, Kashket and an OG.

Our run came to a shuddering halt at home next up to Hull. Losing 3-2 at home with a 92nd minute winner for Hull.

Our Final game in October was away to Birmingham City and back to winning ways. An Onyedinma scored the only goal of the game in the 88th minute.

The run up to Christmas is a difficult time in Football. The calendars are full to the brim and the games are back to back for 6 weeks.

W seem to be affected by this more than others as every season we fall foul to a big drop in form in winter.

This was no different this season. We started this with a 0-0 draw at Derby followed by a 1-0 home defeat to Cardiff.

An away defeat to Swansea with Jay Fulton receiving a straight red for a dangerous challenge in the 63rd minute. Onyedinma got 2 goals but we couldn't hold on and lost 3-2.

Another 14th minute red card in the next game at home to Notts Forrest didn't seem to phase the lads as we ran out 3-1 winners. This proved to be our last win of the year as we fell to a 3-0 defeat at Huddersfield and 2-1 defeat at QPR.

Our New Years Eve fixture saw us face Newcastle in the FA Cup 3rd Round. Another red card again hindered our chances as Stewart was sent off for 2 bookable offences in the first 22 minutes.

Cosgrove and Onyedinma go the goals in a 4-2 defeat.

Despite the recent drop in form we are still punching well above our weight. Occupying the final Play Off place (6th) with 41 points from 24 Games.

Next up we have the January transfer window and the need to improve our form.

Catch you in the next chapter.

Cheers
