With our League Cup run ended last time out, our sole focus for the rest of the calendar year was our league form.
We started October with an away trip to Luton, a notoriously difficult place to go to. A 3-2 loss was deserved, Goals from Onyedinma and Stewart were not enough to bring anything back round the M25
The comforts of home were calling, with Millwall the visitors. We were under pressure for the majority of the match but unlike the Lions we took our chances. Kashket scoring 2 clinical second half goals on the break gave us an unexpected by much needed first win of the season.
A midweek trip back down the M4 to bitter rivals Reading was up next. We were out seeking revenge for our cup loss on penalties last month.
Sweet, Sweet revenge was secured by a Joe Jacobson penalty and an outstanding performance from the defensive unit. Back to back wins and even more impressive, back to back clean sheets.
A trip to promotion chasing Norwich in front of 25,000 fans proved no issue for our defence as they again proved there resolve managing to keep another clean sheet with Allsop making 8 saves.
Norwich would have left that field like Fernando Torres in his Chelsea days, wondering what they needed to do to score.
The games in The Championship are relentless. A energy sapping defensive display in Norfolk was followed 3 days later by a home game against another relegated club, Watford.
This was a rude awakening to life at this level. As Watford, with the majority of their Premier League stars from last season started taught us a lesson that I fear we will be taught again this season. 3-0, no complaints. The best team we have played so far.
A chance for a rest and recovery week in training as another home game loomed. Sheffield Wednesday were the visitors. The game was described as an early season 6 pointer. The Owls started on -6 points due to financial discrepancies
A 1-0 win was deserved and another clean sheet. The defence are really showing their worth, keeping clean sheets and chipping in with vital goals.
Grimmer has done well at RB but the return McCarthy will do nothing but improve the back 4.
A fantastic October, securing 10 points out of 18 with 4 clean sheets in 6 games.
The players are really starting to buy into the counter attack philosophy we are required to play.
Hopefully they can keep this up through November.
Cheers
