Wycombe Wanderers S2 EP1 - Off Field and On Field Developments

Updated: Mar 6, 2021

We go into our second season in the Championship knowing that the budget is not going to be ground breaking. Yet improvements need to be made to ensure we keep our championship status.

Last season the changes were minimal, and we probably got through a lot of the games on hard work and teamwork more that raw talent.

As we can see, the budget was the lowest in the league again.

However it was clear why straight away, when the board announced plans to expand Adams Park by over 2500 seats at a cost of 3.2 million.

The board also agreed to improve the youth academy at my request. This was the first step in the right direction to one of my pre save goals of making Wycombe one of the best producers of young talent in the country.

With 1.8 Million in the pot there were definitely some players I had my eye on.

We relied heavily on our play out wide last season with the likes of Onyedinma, Horgan and Bowler all playing massive parts throughout the season.

I felt we were weak in the middle of the park so my focus was to strengthen there.

We start with Max Power, Signed from Sunderland for 230k

Quickly followed by Jay Fulton from Swansea for 350k.

Reece Lyon was signed from Greenock Morton for 235k and was definitely signed with an eye on the future and cover for the Half Back role.

We were also in dire need of a CB after losing Knight after his loan and Darius Charles leaving on a free for regular first team football. We raided newly promoted Hull for Alfie Jones for 450k. Hes going to be one to watch for sure.

The other notable signing is the resigning of Harvey White on loan from Tottenham on a season long deal.

Below is a summary of other signings made during preseason.

Imari Samuels is a young left back signed from Reading on loan to provide cover for Joe Jacobson.

Adam Philips is a young centre midfielder signed on a free from Burnley.

Donga He again is a youthful striker signed from Wolves.

Jay Stansfield is signed on loan as cover for Kashket up top.

We start our second season in the championship with the same goals, survival.

We have reverted back to the 4-1-2-3 formation with the wide players set as Inside Forwards and inverted wingers.

Pre Season complete we start the season welcoming newly promoted Swindon Town to Adams Park.

Cheers
