Before we get started lets have a little reminder about the save and the self imposed rules we are working with.
If you want to start from the beginning of the journey you can do so here.
Save Rules & Aims
To become a professional football team for the first time in the clubs history.
Become a League Club.
Win some major silverware.
Only Sign English Players
This may sound like an easier save rule, however I like the idea of limiting the scope of our signings.
Promote 3 Players a season from the youth intake into the first team squad.
This will focus the save upon developing the local lads to become the future of the club.
Fill the backroom staff with former players and legends along the way.
This will add a different twist when trying to improve the clubs standing. Developing staff as well as players.
July & August 2022
Like I promised we head straight into the action as we have a full throttle start to the league.
AND WHAT A s START! One blemish in an almost perfect 7/7 as we lose a tight game at home to promotion chasing Hartlepool.
Huge goal numbers from a few players but most unexpectedly is Aaron Eyoma, who grabbed himself a hattrick opening game and then went on to add another 2 more.
Could not have asked for a better start.
There was a sudden air of confidence around the club as we sat comfortably atop of the league however, a run of results like that so early in the season means nothing if we do not capitalise and carry the form on for a few more months.
Another really really strong month with another three wins to add to the tally.
Again we fell short against one of the hotly tipped promotion chasing teams in Chesterfield but apart from that its another positive stride.
Few had expected this start from this team, included those within the club. But we had set ourselves up for a fantastic season and needed to grasp this opportunity with both hands.
Starting to sound like a broken record but YET AGAIN its an almost perfect month with just the one loss coming against a promotion hopeful. This time in teh form of Bromley.
The month goal wise belonged to Josh Kelly who registered 5 goals in 6 games.
I saw an opportunity to add some depth in the attacking areas of our squad. Being as reliant as we are on Evans and Duncan.
Thomas Hughes - He will be a sturdy back up for Evans in that AM role behind Kelly. He is also on a appearance based contract so can very much be moved on if necessary.
Back o the action and amazingly we enter the 5 month of the season and are sat at the summit of the League. A long way off of our pre season ambitions of avoiding relegation. Lets change those ambitions and aim for the top!
Running out of unique ways to describe our performances this episode as i feel we are on a constant loop. Some fantastic wins in these 5 games as we once again miss out on the perfect month to a top team in this league.
Grimsby are a massive club for this level and wont be down here for very long.
Josh Kelly's fine season continues as he grabs another 4 goals.
We start December with another new signing.
Ryan Trevitt - He's listed below as a CM however looking at his attributes I am going to look to retrain him to play out wide on the right.
The festive period was fast upon us and we had built up a huge head of steam going into the new year. With our ambitions for the season now changing to loftier hights we need to keep this form up.
Ok, so we are human after all. Our second loss of the season to Hartlepool aside draws to Torquay and Boreham Wood would have previously been wins.
Its our worst month of the season so far but if that is as bad as it gets I will delighted.
We move into the new year coming off of the back of our poorest run of games of the season. We need a response.
Oh dear, this is new territory for this team. Started well but that is the longest streak we have gone without winning all season.
Nod to Ryan Trevitt who grabbed his first goal for the club after joining in December.
Its time to show some character and man management skills.
We are in a tough spot, there is no doubt about it. I have thoughts about a tactical switch but want to ensure its trained and learned.
Until then we need to rely on some personnel changes and some flashes of individual brilliance.
Its our first winless month as we now go 8 games without a win. Josh Kelly and Ryan Trevitt the only players to get on the scoresheets as we managed to scrape some pride with back to back draws against Chesterfield and Bromley.
League Table After February
If I was to have shown you this at the start of this episode we would have been celebrating. But after the start we had and carrying that form all the way through to December to have fallen 9 points off of the pace shows how poor the results have been over the last two months.
Next time out we will finish the season off starting with trying to get us out of this rut we find ourselves in.
